Summary

OK!!! You will not expect this, but i didn't buy this mic to use with a camcorder at all. I came across reviews of this mic base upon an experimental buy of an old model Audiotechnica AT9400 mic. I am a recording engineer and i was experimenting with cheaper mics on recording sources. So one day, i decided to try out the AT9400 on miking my cymbals. Amazingly, it turned out better than all my other pro mics used for cymbals, giving an even better accurate representation of my cymbals that beat all my other pro mics outright. I was dying to get another AT9400, which was already discontinued for a long time and unobtainable. Though the AT9400 is actually the plastic version of the AT822 which was too expensive for me to afford. I came across a review that mention that the ATR25 was actually similar in characteristic with the AT9400. For a cheap mic, i took my chances. The result is, it wasn't similar but was actually better than the AT9400 in regards to bigger cymbals. Now i have a match of AT9400 for my 15' cymbal and the ATR25 for my 17' cymbal. I think i have fantastic microphones for cymbals that nobody actually have tried out with. Stereo mics like this just give a better sonic image of the cymbal which are suppose to be expressive. Most people just use a match pair of mono mics for their cymbals, which no matter how well defined their frequency response is, still doesn't capture that expression. Somehow, both the AT9400 and ATR25 seem to have the right hi-mid and high freq response plus stereo image to capture cymbals with great imagery. It's up to you to believe me or not.

Strength

I don't know about usage with camcorders, but i know they are supreme on cymbals.

Weakness

I'm trying to find a way to convert them to balance cables. These high impedance mics with unbalanced cables tend to give more self noise, however, weighing the balance of how good they sound with cymbals, i am still using them alright!!
